Tennis can be easier to learn when you are a child, but now, thanks to the skills of Heron's coaching team, learning to play the game when you are in your 60s, 70s and 80s is now faster, easier and some say much more fun!
Sessions involve using lighter rackets, playing on smaller and full size courts, and playing with slower and normal balls. It means learning and playing the game is a lot more easier and fun than many people imagine. Players in the group say they have been shocked how quickly they have been able to learn the main shots and play games of doubles!
Heron, off Edgcumbe Road and next to the zoo, runs its "Super Seniors" sessions every Tuesday, 10-10.55am, costing £5 each time. There is no need to book and sessions are guaranteed to run as the group plays indoors if the weather is poor.
Sessions are ideal for people aged in their 60-80s, for younger adults with health issues and for older adults who would like to have some exercise and meet new friends. After the sessions, players like to have coffee and cake in Heron's Courtside Café.
